The Forgiveness of God (Luke 23:33-34)
When they came to the place called The Skull, they crucified Him there, along with the criminals, one on His right and the other on His left. Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Jesus is displaying the Father heart of God while He endures the Cross for the benefit of all who would believe.
Humiliated and tortured by wicked men, Jesus asks the Father to forgive them despite the great evil they have done. This was to fulfill Isaiah 53:12 "Therefore I will allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the spoils with the strong, because He has poured out His life unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors. Yet He bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors".
Forgiveness is part of God's nature if we choose to receive it. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all come to repentance. Forgiveness is incomplete until it has been accepted. God's willingness to forgive is expressed in the parable of the Prodigal Son who finally comes to his senses. He takes the long journey back to his father who runs out to meet him while he is still a long way off, and rejoices in the fact that he has returned home. (Luke 15:11)
Walking in the Light (1 John 1:6-8)
If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
